Have you heard the one about… “How many guitarists does it take to change a lightbulb?”. Answer …“100, one to change the bulb and 99 to say, I could have done that.” The Chucky Danger Band’s young guitarist, Colin Gilmore Buchanan, is one of those up on the ladder actually changing the bulb. His seemingly simple yet innovative approach to song embellishment provides the perfect framework for an instantly memorable listen. Then there’s the age-old magic of the sound of two gifted brothers singing in perfect harmony. Guitarist, John Alexander MacPhee, and his brother and bassist, Rob Wellington MacPhee, combine vocal and songwriting prowess to invite us into the world of a young person growing up and assimilating into a 21st century world. There are songs of hope, humour, angst, love and inner struggle all written with a lyrical sensibility and melodic texture that touches everyone. The Chucky Danger Band’s music is set in a rock and roll context. It’s the one that we older folks remember as good and pure and the one that younger folks feel they are hearing for the first time in the here and now. On stage, exhibiting an obvious love for performing, the band presents a show that is “…quite jaw dropping in its skill, variety and seamless orchestration” (The Guardian).Oh, “What do you call a person who hangs out with musicians?” Answer …“a drummer”. Last but not least, there’s the band’s ace drummer and percussionist, David Cyrus MacDonald. The Chucky Danger Band ; spirited, fun, innovative, extremely musical and universally appealing.
